Level 2 GCSE in Food & Nutrition


The Course

This course offers you the unique and exciting opportunity to develop skills and knowledge of food, cooking, nutritional value and food science. Studying for this qualification will enable with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to cook and apply the principles of food science, nutrition and healthy eating. It encourages learners to cook and enables them to make informed decisions about food and nutrition and allows them to acquire knowledge in order to be able to feed themselves and others affordably and nutritiously, now and later in life.


Course Structure

UNIT 1: Assessment: (60%)


Food & Nutrition in Action, Food Preparation Assessment & Food Investigation Assessment. The two practical tasks are set by the exam board. (10 & 15 hours)


UNIT 2: (40%)


Principles of Food & Nutrition Written Paper 1 ¼ hours Topics studied:

Food commodities, principles of nutrition, diet and good health, the science of food, where food comes from and cooking and food preparation.


Practical work is an essential part of the course, there will be many practical lessons where you will be expected to attend to those lessons with ingredients and recipes ready to learn.
