Vocational Personal Development Pathways

As a school we aim to provide a wide and varied curriculum. We are aware that all our students have different learning needs and therefore aim to provide an accessible curriculum for all. We have worked hard to ensure that we meet the needs of our students through our Personal Development Pathways.
Tourism:
The WJEC Level 1/2 Tourism qualification will offer you the knowledge, understanding and skills of customer service and quality customer experiences. It encourages you research different types of tourism destination and identify key features and appeal. It will allow you to acquire the knowledge and understanding in order to be able to review the business of tourism, its importance in the UK and the issues faced by tourism organisations.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
By studying Level 1/2 Tourism you will know and understand:
• customer service standards of tourism organisations
• how tourism organisations meet the expectations of customers
• how to investigate the quality of customer experience in tourism organisations
• tourism organisations’ objectives
• the business environment in which tourism organisations operate
• how to review options for solutions to issues
• the appeal of destination features to tourists
• factors affecting appeal of destinations
• the role of organisations in tourism development
• how to recommend how destinations increase appeal to different types of tourists
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
The following units are internally assessed:
Unit 1: Customer Experience (25%)
Unit 3: Developing UK Tourist Destinations (50%)
Each Unit is assessed through one assignment under controlled conditions.
Unit 2: The Business of Tourism is externally assessed (25%) 75 minute examination that is available in June of each academic year.
WHAT SKILLS WILL I DEVELOP?
You will develop a range of skills which are attractive to employers, colleges and universities including:
skills required for independent learning and development; a range of generic and transferable skills; The ability to solve problems; the skills of project based research, development and presentation; the fundamental ability to work alongside other professionals, in a professional environment; the ability to apply learning in vocational contexts
Prince’s Trust (Level 1/2 Certificate)
The Prince’s Trust Achieve programme is led by our School Based Youth Worker which focuses on supporting young people to learn new skills, develop their confidence and self esteem and re engage with learning so they can reach their full potential. The programme is delivered at both a Level 1 and Level 2 standard and allows pupils to have the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of activities related to Personal and Social Development, Life Skills, Active Citizenship, Enterprise and Preparation for Work. The Prince's Trust Achieve Qualification is the equivalent to 2 GCSE's at a Level 2 (A*-C) standard. 6 files need to be completed to achieve the full qualification. Our young people love the combination of the following modules: Teamwork Skills, Physical Well Being, Money Management, Project Based Learning, Community Impact and Digital Skills! Introductory Certificate in Public Services:
The Pearson BTEC Level 1 Introductory Award, Certificate and Diploma in Public Services are designed around practical skills and tasks that place an emphasis on learners demonstrating what they can do rather than what they know in theory. The qualifications give learners the opportunity to acquire and develop generic, transferable and sector-specific skills in order to complete tasks, and demonstrate a level of achievement that enables them to progress to further learning.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
Learners could be given opportunities to:
• carry out practical tasks
• present information that they have gathered
• keep working logbooks, records and reflective journals
• practise English and mathematical skills
• take part in oral or written presentations
• take part in role play, interviews and other activities.
. All learners taking these qualifications will study core units that focus on key transferable skills such as research and planning, time management and working with others. Learners will also take a number of sector units. The content of the sector units offers a broad introduction to the skills and knowledge within that sector, allowing the delivery to be practical and active in order to engage the learners. For public services, the units cover topics and activities such as fitness testing, assisting members of the public, responding to an incident or taking part in adventurous activities.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
These qualifications consist of two types of unit. Group A units are the core skills units, they cover content designed to reflect the skills and behaviours needed to progress to further study. Group B units are made up of sector units containing sector-specific content to enable learners to develop sector-specific skills and some knowledge to support progression to the next stage of vocational learning.
Assessment is designed to fit the purpose and objective of the qualification and all units are internally assessed – giving learners the opportunity to demonstrate skills developed in applied scenarios.

Writing, speaking and listening to others, showing respect for others in the team and valuing their contributions, Identifying issues by being able to examine information, Collecting and using information from different sources and being resilient and able to work under pressure.
