Religious Studies
(SHORT COURSE)

The Course

All pupils at KS4 will follow units in a Level 2 Religious Studies qualification, equivalent to half a GCSE. This course provides opportunities for pupils to follow a course that balances knowledge of core beliefs, teachings and practices with an understanding of how they can be applied to philosophical and ethical themes. (Pupils may also elect to follow Religious Studies as a full GCSE as one of their option subjects).


Course Content

The Level 2 course will cover topics such as:

  • Values, beliefs, purpose, truth and decision-making

  • Environment

  • Crime and punishment

  • Peace and conflict

  • Beliefs and practice, wisdom and authority

  • Inspiration

  • Religious festivals and celebrations


Following this course will enable learners to:


  • Deepen their understanding of the relationship between people

  • Become informed about common and divergent views within traditions in the way beliefs and teachings are understood and expressed

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the fact that religious traditions of Great Britain are, in the main, Christian

  • Understand that religious traditions in Great Britain are diverse.
